And for those who have found love and wish to get married, get their horoscopes matched to understand any hindrances which might come in their married life and the right rituals to resolve them. However, the Kundli matching reasons don’t just end here. To begin the process of matching kundlis, the first thing any astrologer asks for are:

  • Date
  • Time
  • Place of birth of both individuals

Astrologer Hemant Ji says that the accuracy of these details is paramount because even a slight error can lead to significant differences in the planetary positions and nakshatras (lunar constellations), which form the basis of astrological analysis.

Accurate birth details ensure the precision of the birth charts, which is crucial for an accurate match and understanding of potential compatibility, challenges, and strengths in the relationship.

To make the most accurate Janam Patri for every individual, an astrologer will request information like the exact date, place and time of birth, to make the most accurate Janam Patri for every individual. Even a second here and there of the exact time of birth can change kundli charts a complete 360 degrees. So make sure that you don't guess, but go through your birth certificate proof to be 100% sure about your time of birth.

Kundli reading in itself is a vast subject, with Kundli matchmaking for marriage as a part of it. The positions of planets and Ascendant signs on an individual's horoscope charts help in establishing the moon sign across the twelve houses, along with the planetary aspects and conjunctions. Each house represents different aspects of life, such as career, marriage, wealth, health, family burdens, finances, and many other points.

We asked Astrologer Hemant Ji to share insights on how he makes individual predictions. He said, "My procedure is first to make predictions for the person discussing what all events have already happened to check the accuracy level of the chart. The analysis also includes checking the dashas (planetary periods) and transits, which indicate the timing of events and what is going to happen in a person's life."

In the case of arranged marriages, the families often approach astrologers for their guidance. An expert astrologer can then analyse the kundli of the person to provide different timelines of the near future that have the highest scope of marriage and will be most beneficial for the individual to get married in.

Understanding Horoscope Matching By Date Of Birth

Traditionally, a marriage Kundli is known as Janam Patri or Janam Kundli. The accurate details of both individuals help in drafting Kundli charts that eventually help an astrologer determine various predictions for marriage. Predictions like the most auspicious dates for marriage, the ideal muhurat time to take Saat Pheras and remedies (if required) for a happy, healthy and prosperous married life.

Importance of Ascendant Sign

Also known as Lagna in Vedic astrology, an ascendant sign is the zodiac sign rising on the eastern horizon at the time of an individual's birth. Astrologer Hemant ji shares that the Ascendant sign acts as a lens through which the rest of the chart is interpreted, impacting how planets and their energies manifest in a person's life.

Finding The Right Muhurat With Kundali

Astrologer Hemant ji states that the right muhurat, or auspicious time, for events like marriage is determined by analysing the Panchang Hindu calendar and the Kundlis of both individuals. The calendar and the charts help in examining the Tithi or lunar day, Nakshatra or lunar mansion, Yog, and Karana, along with planetary positions.

The analysis helps in predicting auspicious marriage dates that will benefit the couple with a harmonious, successful and fulfilling married life.

The 36-Points System or Gun Milan

The 36-point system, which is traditionally known as Ashtakoota Milan and informally known as Gun Milan, is a method of evaluating the compatibility of two individuals. While the belief is that a higher number of Gun Milan points means a more prosperous married life, in reality, Gun Milan only makes up 25% of the importance in matchmaking. It is rather the individual charts of the couple that hold 75% importance in predicting the match.

These 32  points are distributed across eight categories:

  • Varna (1 Point): Assesses spiritual compatibility, categorising individuals into four Varnas (Brahmin, Kshatriya, Vaishya, and Shudra) based on their Moon sign. Compatibility is determined by the match within these categories.
  • Vashya (2 points): Evaluate dominance and magnetic attraction in the relationship, dividing individuals into five types (Human, Wild Animal, Small Animal, Waterborne, and insect) based on their Moon sign.
  • Tara (3 Points): Considers the destiny and well-being post-marriage by comparing the birth Nakshatras (lunar constellations) of the partners, totalling 27, divided into 3 parts each.
  • Yoni (4 Points): Measures sexual compatibility and attraction, assigning each Nakshatra to an animal symbol that represents sexual energy, nature, and behaviour.
  • Graha Maitri (5 Points): Evaluate the mental compatibility and attitude towards life by comparing the ruling planets of the Moon sign of both individuals.
  • Gana (6 Points): Assesses temperament compatibility, dividing Nakshatras into three Ganas (Deva or godly, Manushya or human, and Rakshasa or demon), indicating nature and personality traits.
  • Bhakoot (7 Points): Focuses on mutual love and the strength of the relationship, comparing the Moon signs and assessing the relative distances or positions.
  • Nadi (8 Points): Addresses health, genetic compatibility, and the possibility of childbearing, categorising Nakshatras into three Nadis (Adi, or start, Madhya, or middle, and Antya, or end).

A higher score indicates better compatibility, with 18 points considered the minimum threshold for a marriage recommendation.

Doshas And Remedies For Marriage

Oftentimes, people who seek matchmaking services are more worried about either Gun Milan compatibility or Doshas in their partner's charts. ‘Is the person Manglik or Non-Manglik?’ is one of the most commonly asked questions in marriage matchmaking. Astrologer Hemant ji sheds light on Doshas and their remedies. He says, "In Vedic astrology, a dosha is a condition in a person's horoscope that is believed to bring adverse effects to various aspects of life, such as health, wealth, marriage, and overall well-being."

For the right remedies for doshas, he says, "Gemstone remedies are generally suggested along with various other rituals that can be performed to turn planet positions and Dasha in your favour."

Marriage Predictions Based on Kundlis

Vedic astrology analyses various key points to assess marriage prospects and conjugal life quality. Astrologer Hemant Ji defines some of the predictions an astrologer makes while analyzing the Janam kundlis of both individuals:

  • Lagna (Ascendant) and Moon Placement: Essential for personal traits and emotional harmony.
  • Seventh House (Kalatra Bhava): Central for marriage predictions, examining its lord, placement, and any residing planets.
  • Venus and Mars Analysis: Indicates love, marital happiness, and potential conflict in the relationship.
  • Timing of Marriage (Vivaha Kaal): Utilizes the Vimshottari Dasha system and planetary transits to identify auspicious marriage timings.
  • Synastry and Composite Charts: Offer insights into compatibility and relationship dynamics.
  • Dasha Analysis: Forecasts marital stability and challenges post-marriage.

He mentions, "These elements provide a comprehensive view of marriage prospects, requiring in-depth expert analysis for precise predictions."

Some Important Pointers

If you and your family are firm believers in horoscopes and matchmaking, then the best way to prepare for the marriage arrangements is by first booking an appointment with an astrologer near you. Since most marriages in India take place around the same Saya dates, making an appointment with your astrologer well in advance will give you a better opportunity to book the wedding venue of your dreams.

Having said that, finding an arranged match based on the horoscope can act as a concrete foundation, but ultimately, what matters is the chemistry and commitment you two hold towards each other, which solidify a successful marriage.
