The famous western Victorian saying "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue" has played a very crucial role in Indian wedding traditions too. If you are wondering how then the answer is "heirloom." Heirloom jewellery, heirloom sarees or even heirloom accessories like watches are one of the most treasured pieces for the brides and grooms on their big day.

While you must be excited to buy a Louboutin heel or an Armani suit for your D-day, your great grandmother's Satlada Haar that was passed on to you by your mother, or a golden ring passed on to the groom by his father from his ancestors is a priceless addition to your wedding. An heirloom is not just any piece of your outfit or an accessory to add to your big day. It is, in fact, a treasure that has been handed over to you to uphold the beauty and traditions.

The heirloom is the passing on of the family legacy and the celebs are here to inspire us on how to carry the baton of family legacy with utmost grace. Here are the celebrities who have incorporated their heirlooms into their wedding outfits seamlessly for inspiration.

The heirloom wedding ensemble has an undeniable vintage appeal, but along with it, it also comes with a rich history and sentimental value. Kareena Kapoor Khan is known for being on top of the trends. From her airport looks to her ramp walks, she has been a fashion icon inspiring every millennial with best styles. Instead of going for a modern designer outfit from contemporary designers, she wore her mother-in-law - Sharmila Tagore's wedding gharara from her royal Nikah in 1962. Upcycling and further embellishing it with the help of ace designer Ritu Kumar, Kareena looked mesmerising as a bride.

It is unlikely for most of the GenZ brides to wear the entire wedding outfit and they might reinvent the designs using the same fabric in a different silhouette. But if your mother or grandmother has a Kanjeevaram, Jamdani or a Banarasi silk in store for you from her wedding, it will add to the sentimental value of your wedding. Go for it!

While Isha Ambani flaunted a gorgeous Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla lehenga with 16-panelled ghagra in 2 shades of off-white features a trail with Mughal Jaalis and floral panels alternate in the finest zardozi, Vasli, Mukaish and Nakshi work to make it as royal as it gets. She has beautifully incorporated Nita Ambani's wedding saree, which has been, pleated and enhanced with majestic Zardozi borders. She has used her mother's saree as in a double dupatta style over her shoulders.

The bond between mother and daughter, and the love they share has been beautifully portrayed through this heirloom saree that Isha Ambani has included in her attire. If you do not want to entirely do away with your dream of a contemporary designer lehenga, you can still include an heirloom in your outfit as a double dupatta like Isha Ambani.

Priyanka Chopra's Wedding Gown

The white Christian wedding gown that Priyanka Chopra wore for her Christian wedding was a breathtaking Ralph Lauren gown with a sweeping 75-foot veil. It comprised of two different cuts of tulle—a shorter fingertip-length veil worn under the epically longer one, which was carried behind the bride by six attendants. To add to the beauty and regal look of her gown, she added a piece of lace from Nick Jonas's mother's wedding gown and sewed it into her wedding gown.

Brides can incorporate a piece of the heirloom fabric into their lehenga or gown if they do not want to include it entirely.
