1. Find your vision

The Shuttersync Studio

Does a traditional style appeal to you or do you like things to be more artistic? Or perhaps you’re in love with photojournalistic wedding photography? Whatever you choose, remember to compare pictures from a huge variety of styles to find something that will you represent you and your partner the best. Take some time out for this; discuss it with each other instead of rushing things. Once you realise your vision, it’ll be much easier to find your wedding photographer.

2. Find your photographer

Not only do you need to get a whole lot of research done for this but you also need to make sure you don’t simply settle. You need to ensure that you and your photographer are in sync, your visions match and your photographer understands what you’re looking for. While reviews from other couples are extremely important, you need to see whether your individual interests are covered. If you can’t meet in person, arrange a Skype session and communicate with your prospective photographer. Ask for her portfolio and also look at entire wedding albums and not just outtakes. You want to understand the photographer’s style well before making a decision.

3. Body language is underrated

Happy Depictions

You don’t want to appear tense in the pictures. Relax, remember to stay natural and focus on your better half in the pictures. This is your chance to celebrate your love and have a little fun along the way. Practice good posture and ask your photographer for advice while posing. Remember to smile! Nothing will make you and your partner look as dreamy as a smile on both your faces and uncomplicated happiness that will be reflected in the pictures. This isn’t a test and you’re here to kick off your wedding celebrations.

4. On posing

Discuss your options and communicate as much as you need to with your photographer for ideas. Whether you’re going for more candid pictures in your pre-wedding pictures with both of you walking, talking or laughing together or planned pictures like the two of you looking at each other while enjoying a ride in an amusement park or even during the wedding rituals, ask lots of questions beforehand and even during the photo shoot. Trust your photographer who does this on a regular basis and will be able to offer solid advice.

5. Take out time for your bridal shoot

We know that you want a lot of your candid shots to be captured. But you should definitely spare some time especially for your bridal shoot at every ceremony. Apart from the usual getting ready pictures, your wedding pictures should also include pictures with your squad, your elders and your pets, if you have any. Set aside an hour at each ceremony and around 3 hours on the wedding day for this purpose only.

A bonus tip, use every element as a wedding prop. Whether it is your wedding earrings or your photobooth, you can strike a pose with everything. And finally, trust your photographer. They're professionals, they know what they're doing.
