After dating for 5 whole years, Krish proposed to Shefali in April 2024, but with a twist! Shefali shares, "He planned a fake proposal on his sister’s terrace where he sang a song he wrote for me, only to open a ring box with a note inside that read: You really thought I would do it this way? Pack your bags, we leave in 2 days!” The real proposal happened under the Northern Lights in Iceland, captured by NatGeo-featured photographers. It was magical."

The Calling: Anand Kashi

And if you think that this was the viral highlight of their wedding saga? Then wait till you hear this - They planned a soulful and dreamy wedding literally by the holy waters of the River Ganga. With Shefali having spent many summers making memories in Dehradun and studying in Mussoorie, and Krish holding fond childhood memories of rafting in Uttarakhand, they both found a connection to Anand Kashi to be their destination wedding venue. Krish shares, "The wedding had to feel like us. That meant intimate, meaningful, rooted in culture, but also fun. Food and music were top priorities, and we were clear that we didn’t want just to host a wedding, we wanted to enjoy it too." Shefali adds, “Anand Kashi wasn’t on our original list, it was too boutique in size. But when we visited, the riverside was calm, and the energy of the place made us feel instantly at home. With the Taj team’s support, we figured out how to make it wedding-ready. It wasn’t easy, but it was worth it."

Shefali and Krish highly recommend that they opt for months between February to early April, as the waters are calmer, mornings are crisp, and the sun is just about warm for a day wedding.

Pyaar Da Pind: An InterCultural Wedding Celebration

An InterCultural Wedding Celebration
Raabta by Shrey Bhagat

This wedding had a vibrant amalgamation of Punjabi Tadka and Gujarati Rang. With River Ganga being the biggest inspiration for the wedding theme, Shefali added an homage to her Punjabi roots with a riot of colours and chaos, giving the theme the name "Pyaar Da Pind". As for pre-wedding celebrations in Mumbai, Shefali says, “It was full of joy, laughter, and beautiful chaos. We celebrated everything—Anand Karaj, Varmala, Randal Maa Pooja, and even a surprise Jaago at my house, thanks to Krish and his crew. Both families felt instantly at home with one another.” Krish adds, “Almost everything had a personal touch. Our bar had custom-labelled bottles. The food and music were curated down to the last detail. Every event had its moodboard and energy that felt personal and intentional.” With all the marriage rituals in place, this quiet and minimal wedding affair pulled a reverse card and switched cocktail night with an enchanting and spiritual evening with friends and family, witnessing Ganga Aarti surrounded with divinity and the mesmerising evening glimpse of Anand Kashi's Ghat.

The couple wanted comfortable outfits for all their wedding celebrations. But each ensemble had a story to tell, embodying their personalities and style as well. "My wedding jewellery was a mix of heirloom and custom. Each look felt personal. Krish’s outfits were rooted in texture and tone; simple but impactful. We kept everything aligned with the function’s energy," shares the newlywed.

A Dreamy River-Side Wedding Photography

The force behind capturing this beautiful matrimony on Anand Kashi's riverbanks for life is Shrey Bhagat and his team. We asked him about his planning and vision behind bringing the natural beauty of Rishikesh and the wedding in harmony. He candidly shares, "We didn’t want to overpower the natural beauty of Rishikesh. We wanted to let it breathe in every frame. We timed the portraits to align with the light that Rishikesh offers in the early hours and just before sunset. We placed the mirror for the bride right on the banks of the Ganga to make the most of the location. The white tones worn by the guests, the minimal decor, all played into a visual palette that was organic, almost meditative. Instead of constructing shots, we let the landscape lead us." He also highlights the challenges faced while capturing such magical wedding rituals. With no rigged lighting setups, no elevated platforms, minimal room for equipment, and the challenge of staying invisible from the frame due to the river's crackling, they faced it all with a smile and were still able to capture such breathtaking wedding videos and photographs.

For closing lines, we asked what tips Shrey would like to share for the couples who plan on getting married in Rishikesh, and he says:

  • Embrace the natural setting instead of overpowering it.
  • Go minimal with your decor—let the river, the hills, and the sky do the talking.
  • Timing is everything. Plan your main moments—like the ceremony or couple portraits—around sunrise or the soft golden light of late afternoon.
  • Trust your photographers to work with the light rather than against it.
  • And most importantly, be present. The more connected you are to the moment, the more effortlessly the beauty of Rishikesh will reflect in your photos.
