Our family recently booked a 5 Nights / 6 Days Shimla–Kullu–Manali tour through Travelochat, and unfortunately, the entire experience was disappointing and stressful from start to finish.
The problems started right from the flight booking stage. We had paid the required amount for actual flight expenses, yet the tickets were booked without seat selection and meal preferences. This created continuous confusion until the final boarding pass issuance and caused unnecessary inconvenience to our family.
Upon arrival in Delhi, a driver was arranged who was expected to act as both driver and guide throughout the trip. However, during the journey it became evident that he had very limited knowledge of the tourist destinations, entry fees, operating timings, local attractions, and even the planned itinerary. In many cases, he simply dropped us at locations without providing any guidance. Some tourist spots were unfamiliar to him, which significantly affected our travel experience and defeated the purpose of a guided family tour.
The hotel arrangements were also far below expectations. In Shimla, the room provided was not properly prepared for guests. The room had a kitchen partition inside, several lights were not functioning, bathroom fixtures were damaged, and basic amenities such as handwash and toiletries were missing. Similar issues were experienced at the hotel in Manali. For every basic requirement, we had to repeatedly contact the hotel staff. The actual condition of the properties was significantly different from the photographs shown to us at the time of booking.
Throughout the trip, almost every issue had to be escalated to Ms. Priya Agarwal from Travelochat before any action was taken. Instead of proactive support, we found ourselves constantly following up for resolutions.
The return journey from Manali to Delhi was one of the most exhausting parts of the trip. Despite a distance of approximately 580 km, the driver took nearly 17–18 hours to complete the journey. Frequent tea breaks lasting 40–50 minutes each made the travel unnecessarily lengthy and tiring. As a result, our planned overnight stay in Delhi was completely disrupted.
When we finally reached the Delhi hotel early in the morning, the property refused to provide the booked rooms. We again had to raise complaints with Ms. Priya and MMT. The caretaker was uncooperative and unwilling to discuss the matter. Alternative rooms were arranged initially, but their quality was poor. Only after repeated requests and follow-ups were better rooms provided later in the evening.
The hotel also advertised breakfast facilities, but guests were required to walk nearly 1 km to another property for breakfast, which was highly inconvenient and not communicated in advance.
We have also requested a refund for the loss of one day of our itinerary and the associated inconveniences. Despite multiple emails, calls, and discussions, no satisfactory resolution or refund has been provided.
Additionally, our Delhi sightseeing plans were severely affected. The original driver refused to continue, and a replacement vehicle was arranged only around 11:00 AM instead of the promised 9:00 AM. Due to the delay and extreme heat, we were forced to skip several planned attractions.
Overall, this trip was marked by poor coordination, lack of accountability, inadequate hotel standards, untrained drivers, delayed responses, and continuous uncertainty. There appeared to be very little control by the travel agency over its service providers, including drivers, hotels, and third-party partners.
I would strongly advise travelers to thoroughly verify all arrangements before booking and to exercise caution when choosing such travel agencies. Our experience resulted in a significant loss of time, comfort, money, and valuable family vacation memories.
Another disappointing aspect was the so-called "candlelight dinner" included on the last day of our trip. When we inquired about the arrangements, the travel agency's understanding of a candlelight dinner appeared to be limited to arranging a cake if requested. There was no special dining setup, ambiance, decoration, or any of the elements that travelers would normally expect from a candlelight dinner experience. Ultimately, both families had to bear the actual expenses personally for the arrangements and services we wanted. This further reflected the lack of planning, professionalism, and understanding of customer expectations throughout the trip.
